Burning Calories the Fun Way

Share the news:

When people think of burning calories, more often than not, they seem misinformed. They think it’s about strict maintenance of dietary intake or that it involves engaging in extreme sports. However, burning calories these days no longer requires extreme activities nor worrying about “holiday weight gain” during the winter or holiday time. Having fun on a snowmobile at high speed will also do.

But before you have your machine undergo a snowmobile maintenance inspection, check out these other fun ways to lose weight from articles written by experts from the University of Utah Health in Salt Lake City and countless more sources.

Mindful Eating (and Math) is Key

Debunk previous misconceptions that burning calories means starving yourself or keeping yourself from enjoying fine food you love. The key is to eat in moderate amounts without necessarily sacrificing nutrition the body needs on a daily basis. You don’t even need to go to the gym to turn this one into a success.

Basically, what you need to do is calculate your basal metabolic rate (BMR), also known as the number of calories you need while the body is at rest. It is simple: The number of calories you eat, in relation to your lifestyle and caloric rate, will determine how many calories can be burned. In fact, scholars say that a healthy weight loss goal is about a pound a week.

Go ahead and eat that sandwich in the morning and that chicken parmigiana during lunch, provided you’ve done the math and you don’t eat more than your body can burn. Mindfulness will get you to your ideal weight loss. If you’re not a fan of Math, various apps and websites can help you get started.

New Trends: Yoga (and More)

What’s great about yoga is that you can do it at a yoga center or even in the comfort on your home, as long as you have a stable Internet connection that can allow you to access online yoga videos. Do this for thirty minutes to burn a considerable number of calories. You can also get in touch with your spirituality and inner peace.

Engage in (Window) Shopping

Did you know that shopping for two hours burns approximately 500 calories? Not only did you have fun strolling around a mall, but you also took the time to care for yourself. It may sound crazy, but it’s true. People even claim that 10,000 steps on their pedometer (whether through a Fitbit or through a simple app on their smartphone) is even just the minimum for them when they’re shopping or window shopping.

If traditional forms of workout don’t work out for you, maybe this one would. Go get that retail therapy.

These are just a few suggestions to help you burn calories the fun, non-traditional way. The Internet and mobile apps can also give you more ideas, but these three can allow you to begin working on those fitness plans. Burning calories is not meant to be a complex matter. Calories are part of life and what you just need to know is how to control your intake and manage your weight properly.
